Mother's Day Gift Guide

Hello Lovelies,

I hope you had a lovely weekend, I had an extremely relaxing one, with many hours being spent on the couch, watching - probably - far too many ANZAC Day documentaries, I seriously could watch them repeatedly !

So with Mother's Day fast approaching - well for some countries at least - I thought I'd put together a little gift guide to help ease some of the gift buying stress. Whether you're lucky enough to have a mother in your life or whether you just have some fantastic female figures around you - Aunts, Grandmas, Sisters, etc - I thought I'd give you some suggestions on what you can buy or make these lovely ladies, to show them, just how much they, and their hard work are appreciated !

Coming from a family where both my mum and my dad would always make a point of telling my siblings and I that they didn't want a gift and as long as we were there to celebrate with them, that's all that mattered, I still think it's a nice gesture to give someone a gift just to show how much you appreciate them in your life. So whether you're someone who likes to buy a gift from a shop or is more into creating a D.I.Y present with a personal touch, I have got you covered !

You can click the links underneath each photo, which will either take you to the online store or D.I.Y website, if you were wanting to purchase or make any of the suggestions below :)

Store Bought Gifts

All of the gift suggestions above are under $50, which means you can still buy an amazing gift, but it definitely won't break your budget. You can also personalise store bought gifts, by adding things that the person likes ie: Buy a candle scent they enjoy, add a box of their favorite tea/coffee to a cute mug, etc. Whether she's a fashionista, a devoted gardener, or a passionate cook, there's something for every lovely lady.

D.I.Y Gifts

DIY Gifts

Personal Notes in a Jar / Glitter Candle Jar / DIY Photo Collage / Vanilla Brown Sugar Body Scrub / Pedicure/Manicure in a Jar / DIY Personalised Mugs

I love the idea of a hand-made gift and the fact that you can add so many personal touches to them, plus they can be customised to each person. By adding their favorite scent to a body scrub or favourite nail polish colour to a pedicure/manicure in a jar, you can personalise it specifically for them. I've also added a gift that my siblings and I made my mum one year for her birthday, which was a collage we made out of all different family photos and stuck them inside a photo frame, we then wrote our own little personal messages in gold pen around the black border and added some extra cute little love heart stickers.

I hope you all could get some inspiration from my Mother's Day Gift Guide and are no longer feeling as stressed or worried with what to get that special woman in your life.

I'm doing a double post this week, so stay tuned for my next post on Thursday. Until then, I hope you all have a lovely day and I'll see you very soon !

Benefit "They're Real!" Mascara Review

Hello Lovelies,

I hope you all had a fantastic Easter and a well deserved break. Hopefully the Easter bunny came to you and left you with some yummy chocolate eggs or bunnies and hopefully there weren't any overly sore bellies. This week, I'm back with a review on the much raved about "They're Real !" Mascara by Benefit. I'm sorry this post is really picture heavy but I just wanted to be able to sufficiently show you the product and what it can do for your lashes, but I hope you enjoy !

About 2 weeks ago, I saw that Benefit had posted on their Instagram page that their "Mascara Swap" was back. The mascara swap is where you could go in store and swap any old mascara you had - any size, any brand - for a free deluxe sample size of the "They're Real!" mascara, as well an eye Prep, Prime and Perfect make up service, where you could have your eye-make-up re-done, using all Benefit products. I personally am not a fan of those in-store make-up application services unless I've booked in to get my entire face done, so when the sales assistant offered the service, I kindly declined - and between you and me, she told me, she would too :)

Looking back now, I wish I had remembered the sales assistants name, she was so lovely. We had a good chat about all things make-up, including why I didn't like the mascara I swapped, all the other mascaras that other girls had brought in and of course, the much beloved "They're Real" mascara. As I was out shopping for birthday presents with my best friends boyfriend, I made sure not to hang around for too long, but I'll admit, I could have stayed for hours, just talking and playing with the products.

When it comes to mascara, I personally am a fan of wands that have much thicker and bushier bristles, whereas this wand is more of a rubber/plastic wand (See Below), similar to the Max Factor Xperience volumising mascara, which was sadly discontinued.

I often only ever apply 1 coat of mascara for the day time, as I find it does the job for my eyelashes as they’re naturally quite long, just incredibly blonde, but after I had tried the "They're Real" mascara, with only one coat and was sadly a little disappointed, I thought I’d give it a few more goes and try it with 2 coats as well. I am so glad I did ! My eyelashes looked far better after the 2nd coat, as it gave them a bit more thickness - which I love! - with the second coat as well as the length and separation from the 1st coat.

Below I have 3 photos comparing no mascara, 1 coat and 2 coats, as you can see by the 2nd coat, my lashes are thicker - especially on the outer corners - but still lengthened and separated

Below is a photo I took comparing between no mascara and 2 coats, the mascara definitely makes quite a dramatic difference.

Final Thoughts

I'd definitely agree that Benefit's "They're Real" Mascara is a lovely mascara for those wanting a more "natural" false eyelash effect, and retailing for $38 for an 8.5g tube, it's definitely a bit more of a luxury item, if you're used to buying inexpensive mascaras, such as Maybelline and Rimmel. If you were wanting to try it out, I'd definitely recommend seeing if you can get your hands on the travel size tube which retails for around $10, just in case you don't want to fork out almost $40 on a mascara that you may or may not like.

I hope you all enjoyed my review of the Benefit "They're Real" Mascara and I definitely recommend checking it out, if you're after a good high end mascara. I'd also love to know if you've ever tried it out, leave me a comment below or on my instagram, facebook or twitter, I'd love to know what you thought of it :)

Have a fantastic rest of the week and and weekend and I'll see you all next week !

Totally Addicted To Base...

Hello lovelies,

I hope you had a lovely weekend, I know I did, as I spent my Sunday with my lovely extended family celebrating my brothers birthday for the 3rd and final time, even though his birthday was almost a month ago. There was lots of food, lots of chatter and of course, lots of overly full bellies, but that's the point of a good party right ? Anyway, I'm back this week with a requested post, on all things base related: Primer, Foundation, Concealer, Powder, the lot !

Primer

Recommended Primers

L-R: Benefit The POREfessional / Illamasqua Hydra Veil / L'Oreal Paris Lumi Magique Pure Light Primer / BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector / Estee Lauder Matte Perfecting Primer / M·A·C Strobe Cream / Models Prefer Perfect Canvas Mattifying Face Primer

So, I always like to think of primer as the underwear or lingerie of the face. You always want to start off with a good base - or under garment.

When choosing a primer you need to know the main reason you're using it for. There are so many different primers on the market aimed at reducing shine, blurring fine lines and wrinkles, minimising pores, you name it, they have a primer for it. The great thing about some primers now, is that they can target a few problem areas in one, so you don't have to choose picking one primer over another and using different primers on different areas of the face. I know it can seem as though it's just another annoying step to your makeup routine, but seriously, primers can work wonders for your skin. Above I've suggested some primers, which I personally have used as well as ones that girls I know have recommended, so chances are you can't go wrong with one of them. I personally love the Models Prefer one, in the black tube, as its a silicone formula which helps fill in large pores and is also matte, which means it reduces shine.

If you're one of those people who have a full face of makeup in the morning and by noon most - or maybe even all - your makeup has disappeared/smudged/melted etc, then a primer is a great starting point for your makeup routine

Foundation

Recommended Foundations

L-R: L'Oréal Paris True Match Foundation / Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup / Australis CC Colour Correcting Cream / Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation / Bourjois 1 2 3 Perfect Foundation / Maybelline SuperStay Makeup Foundation

Similarly with foundation, you need to have some idea of what look you're going for. Do you want full coverage ? Sheer ? Do you want your skin to be matte ? or Dewy ? I personally go for a matte foundation as I find throughout the day, my skin will naturally make the foundation slightly oilier, where as if I were to use a dewy foundation, it would just slip and slide straight off my skin. If you have slightly drier skin, I'd suggest a dewy foundation as this will add a bit of moisture to your skin and give a glow to your skin, instead of drying it out further like a matte foundation would. Above I've also put some recommendations of foundations, the Maybelline SuperStay would be perfect if you're after a super matte finish, perfect for nights out, where as the Bourjois 123 perfect foundation, will give you much more of a natural finish.

Concealer

Recommended Concealers

L-R: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer / Rimmel Wake Me Up Make Up Concealer / NYX Full Coverage Concealer Jar / M·A·C Pro Longwear Concealer / Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer

When choosing a concealer you want to know what exactly you're wanting to conceal, is it under eye circles ? Pimples ? Extra redness on the face ? Do you want that trademark Kardashian under eye highlight ? There are so many options when it comes to concealing. If you're wanting to brighten up the under eye area, you would want to go with a shade of concealer that is 1-2 shades lighter than your foundation and preferably with a peachy undertone, as this will counteract the blue/green shades in your dark circles. If you were wanting to to cover up pesky pimples or unwanted redness, you'd want a concealer with a green undertone, as the green would counteract the red/pink shades.

Powder

Recommended Powders

L-R: Australis Fresh & Flawless Pressed Powder / Savvy Mineral Loose Powder / Australis Ready Set Go Finishing Powder / Maybelline Fit Me Powder / Covergirl Clean Pressed Powder / Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

To prevent all your hard work going to waste, I would recommend setting your base make-up with either a translucent or pressed/loose powder. A translucent powder will set everything in place without disrupting the colour, where as a pressed or loose powder in the same shade as your foundation can give you slightly more coverage if your foundation and concealer wasn't enough, as well as setting your make-up. Above are some recommendations for inexpensive powders, I have used each of these and highly recommend all of them

----------

If any of you would like some more information on what I've talked about above or suggestions on what products may work best for you, feel free to send me a message on my facebook page, tweet me, leave me a comment below or on Instagram and I'll be more than happy to help you out

I hope you all have a fabulous rest of the week and weekend and I will see you all next week !

iHerb Haul and Review

Hello Lovelies,

So, as I mentioned last week, I’m back with a Haul/Review on a recent purchase I made on iHerb. If you don’t know what iHerb is, It’s a website which stocks health supplements, grocery foods, as well as beauty and many many more things. I placed an order on the 19th of march and it arrived at my front door on the 24th, all iHerb parcels are sent express delivery and you’re also provided with a tracking code, so you know the location of your parcel at all times. If you haven’t checked out iHerb, I definitely recommend heading on over and having a look at their enormous array of products !

Hurraw! Balm - $3.37

First up in my haul is my Hurraw! Lip Balm in Chocolate. I first discovered this lip balm when New Zealander beauty Youtuber, Shannon from Shannnxo, continued to rave about this product. I finally thought I’d see what all the hype was about and purchase one. I’m not going to say it has been some miracle lip balm and solves all my dry and flaky worries, but it definitely does keep them well moisturised even once its worn off. Plus I can’t even begin to describe the scent, holy Jesus, it’s amazing ! The incredible thing about the entire Hurraw! Company is that all the ingredients that go into the lip balm are organic, vegan and raw and also by purchasing Hurraw! lip balms you are supporting fair trade, as well as organic farmers. All up, there are 22 different scents, so there is definitely one that will please everyone. They can be purchased from both iHerb, as well as the Hurraw! website *Link Below*

E.L.F. Studio Powder Brush - $3.00

Next up is the E.L.F (Eyes, Lips, Face) Studio Powder Brush, which I have personally been using to apply my foundation. The great thing about E.L.F cosmetics, is that they are incredibly affordable, but they are also incredibly good quality. Their individual products range from $3.00 to around $12, not including their range of palettes, which given that they are such good quality; they are such good value for money. This brush is incredibly versatile and be used with both wet and dry products. Depending on the look you want to achieve, this brush allows you to buff in products, to make it more sheer less coverage, plus it also allows you to build up your product to create a much more full coverage and flawless base. E.L.F Cosmetics products are vegan friendly and they also don’t test on animals

E.L.F on iHerb
E.L.F Cosmetics

Real Techniques by Sam and Nic Chapman - $54.99

And saving the best til last, – well, at least in my opinion – Real Techniques brushes by Sam and Nic Chapman. Real Techniques were created by 2 gorgeous British sisters, who work not only as make-up artists but also have a Youtube Channel where they post incredible make-up tutorials - Which I spend FAR too long watching. I had received a couple of Real Techniques brushes in the past for presents, which had been purchased from both iHerb and Priceline, so when I needed some more make-up brushes to add to my ever expanding colllection, I thought I'd head on over to Iherb and I'm SO glad I did ! I’ve always had the opinion that you don’t have to spend ridiculous amounts of money on make-up and tools to achieve a gorgeous look and Real Techniques brushes prove this. Every man and his dog knows that there is an incredible mark up on price for products in Australia, most often double the price... or even greater !

I know to many people that $55 may seem like a hell of a lot of money to spend on make-up brushes but when you're getting 11 brushes and saving $77.97, compared to if I were to purchase the exact same ones from priceline - Yes, you read right, $77.97 ! - I think it is definitely worth it. Plus you can find individual make-up brushes on the market that cost more than $55 ! Don’t get me wrong, I am a self confessed Priceline addict, but like any rational person, I’d much rather save $77.97 and purchase the exact same brushes from overseas.

In total, I purchased the "Core Collection", "Starter Set", "Powder Brush" and "Blush Brush". Both the Core Collection and the Starter set come with four brushes each, as well as a case which doubles up as a stand to hold your brushes upright. The great thing about the packaging on the collections is that they come with little pictures and descriptions on how to use each brush, so if you’re not sure which brush is which or what to use it for, then it tells you right there on the packaging. Each brush is also colour coded, so gold refers to the base ie: foundation, concealer, etc. Purple refers to the eyes ie: Eyeshadow, eyeliner, eyebrows, etc and finally pink means the finish ie: Blush, lipstick, setting the makeup, etc. I can't even begin to put into words how soft and lovely these brushes are, it's like stroking your face with a fluffy puppy - as creepy as that sounds ! Real Techniques brushes are also 100% cruelty free and vegan, they also support fair labor practices. I highly recommend these brushes, if you're after affordable yet high quality make-up brushes.

I hope you all enjoyed my iHerb Haul and Review and if any of you have tried out any of the products, be sure to let me know your thoughts on them.

Have an incredible rest of the week and weekend and I shall see you all next week !

The Liebster Award

Hello Lovelies,

I've got a bonus post this week, as I was nominated for another Liebster Award ! As some of you may or may not know, I had previously done a Liebster award post, but it somehow was deleted/vanished/who knows... Technology hey ?! I was lucky enough to be nominated for a second time, this time by the gorgeous Joanna from JoannaSprinkles. So a massive thank-you to her and definitely go check her out, her blog is amazing :)

A quick rundown of what a Liebster Award is, it's where you're nominated by a blogger, who asks you 11 questions and also 11 random facts about yourself. You then answer the questions and random facts, thennominate 11 other bloggers, who have less than 200 followers. They have to answer the 11 questions that you ask them and also add 11 facts about themselves. Each of those people then tag another 11 people and so on and so forth :)

So without further ado, let's get on with the questions ! :)

What is your absolute favourite beauty product?
Gosh, that's hard to choose ! I don’t think I have just one, but I’d probably say a good eyebrow pencil or shadow, is a definite must ! I don’t feel put together without my eyebrows filled in.

If you had to smell of one thing for the rest of your life, what smell would you pick?
I'd probably go with a simple vanilla scent, as I think it's such a gorgeous smell, plus it can go with every occasion.

Do you prefer statement eyes or statement lips?
Oh, I can’t choose ! For a night out, I usually go for a statement eye, because I don’t have to keep reapplying it like I would with a statement lip, but I do also love a subtle eye with a statement lip as well. It just depends how I’m feeling on the night.

Would you rather put your makeup on in the dark with no mirror or with a mirror on a really bumpy car journey?
110% with a mirror on a really bumpy car journey ! At least you'll have a mirror and light coming through the car windows, whereas, who knows where your make-up would end up if you're applying it without a mirror, let alone, in the dark ! Plus you can always apply it when you're stopped at traffic lights and the cars not moving.

What do you look for in a blog?
I don't think I look for anything too specific, but probably just something that's bright and easy to read and definitely plenty of pictures so you can see what the person is talking about, instead of just having to imagine it.

Favourite spring/summer beauty trend?
I love a gorgeous gold look, with a bronzed eye and golden highlight on the cheek, as well as a fresh and simple face with a bright pop of pink or coral on the lips.

Favourite spring/summer fashion trend?
I definitely can't go past a good pastel piece, whether it’s a cute skirt, or even a simple t-shirt. I just think pastel colours look gorgeous on anyone and brighten up an entire outfit.

What superpower would you want?
If I could choose anything in the world, I’d probably say – like most girls - to be able to eat anything and not gain a pound... That could be a superpower, right ?

Favourite makeup tip?
My favourite make-up tip, would be on how to create a no fail winged eyeliner with a piece of sticky tape. By placing a small piece of tape under your eye on the angle you’d like your eyeliner to be, simply do all your eye make-up, then gently peel off the tape and you’ll be left with a super crisp line, which is often almost impossible to get by doing it free hand.

What is your biggest regret about blogging?
My biggest regret about blogging would be for not starting it sooner, I was contemplating starting a beauty blog over a year ago, but always just felt too scared and embarrassed to make one in case people didn't like it. Finally at the beginning on this year, I decided to bite the bullet and not care what others thought and finally make my blog.

What are your top pieces of advice for anyone thinking about starting a blog?
The first main piece of advice would be, that if you’re wanting to start a blog, just do it ! Who cares what others think or say, there’s always going to be people who have something negative to say, but that doesn’t mean it should stop you from doing what you want to do. Also, to blog about things that you’re passionate about, as that will come through in your writing. If you write about things just because others are, people may get the feeling that you don’t actually enjoy it. So just write about what you love.

Make-Up For Dark Complexions

Hello Lovelies,

Just as people with lighter skin often have trouble finding a foundation that isn't too dark, the same goes for people with darker skin tones, who find it hard finding a foundation and concealer that isn't too light. So after I received a request from my gorgeous "sister from another Mr" Jade on how to find the perfect makeup products for darker skin, and I knew that she definitely wouldn't be the only woman out there having this issue

Coming from an angle where I know how frustrating it is for myself, trying to find foundation shades that match my incredibly pale skin perfectly when I'm not fake tanned is an absolute nightmare and almost impossible, so I can imagine it's just as frustrating being on the other end of the spectrum, where brands don't make shades dark enough for people's skin tones or if brands do, often shops don't stock them, which is why I have searched long and wide to bring you some suggestions on both high end and drugstore makeup to cater for all your makeup needs

Foundations for Darker Skin Tones

L-R: CoverGirl Queen Collection All Day Flawless Foundation / NARS Sheer Glow / Revlon ColorStay Makeup / Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation / Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation / Iman Stick Foundation / L'Oréal True Match Liquid Foundation / M·A·C Cosmetics Studio Fix Fluid / bareMinerals Matte Foundation

First up is of course, Foundation. Now the best way to test out foundation is to try some out on your jaw line and see which one perfectly disappears into your skin and that's she shade you want. The only problem is that it can sometimes feel a bit odd doing that in the middle of a store, plus you may not want to try out products that countless other people have been touching. The best thing to do for drugstore makeup is to buy the shade that you think best matches your skin tone and just hope for the best, if it doesn't match at least you're only wasting $20-$30. Or better yet, if you can afford it, buy two different shades, then if you come into trouble and the original shade doesn't match, you can always mix a little bit of the second shade in to even it out. The plus side to buying high end, is that you can be specifically matched to your skin tone in the brands products, which - if they're good at their job - means you'll find the perfect shade for your skin and not have to worry about it being too light or too dark.

A no fail product for face powder is translucent powder, as the name states, there's no colour to it, which means you don't have to worry about it distorting/disturbing your foundation shade. Or if you wanted slightly more coverage, you could go with a pressed or loose powder in the same shade as your foundation. If you needed your make-up slightly darker you could powder with the next shade darker, or if you needed it a little lighter go for the shade before your foundation.

Blush and Bronzer Suggestions for Dark Complexions

L-R: MAC Blush Powder in Raizin / Sleek Face Contour Kit in Dark / e.l.f. Mineral Blush in Coral / NARS Blush in Orgasm / Maybelline Dream Sun Glow / NARS Bronzer in Laguna / Maybelline New York Dream Touch Blush in 02

Next up is blush and bronzer. I think, when it comes to blush and bronzer it's all about your personal choice. I know there are all the different rules and application and colours, but I think if you think you look gorgeous, then who cares what other people think or say. An often no fail combination for blush and bronzer, is go for a bronzer which is 1-2 shades darker than your skin tone and a peachy blush - Nars "Laguna" Bronzer and "Orgasm" blush, look gorgeous together. Similar with the golden eyeshadow below, a bronzer with a slight shimmer to it will look most flattering on the face and bring some warmth and glow to it - just dust it across the areas the sun would naturally hit: top of the cheeks, down the center of the nose, front of the chin and across the forehead. Always apply sparingly and build up the colour, as it will then be easier to blend

Eye and Lip Suggestions for Dark Complexions

L-R: Rimmel Glam Eyes Eyeshadow Quad in State of Grace / Rimmel Traffic Stopping Eyeshadow in #1 / Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eye Shadow in Seductive / Bourjois Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eye Pencil in 45 Blue Remix / Maybelline Color Sensational Bold Matte in Matte 1, Peach/Pink / Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in Whimsical / Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Solstice / Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede in Backstage

The incredibly lucky thing, when it comes to having a darker skin tone is that you're able to pull off so many different colours when it comes to eyeshadow. Any gold tone eyeshadows will bring a gorgeous warmth and glow to the skin, but then you are also able to go with a gorgeous pop of colour, such an purples, blues and green. So definitely don't be shy to give some colour a go, you can always started with a subtle coloured eyeliner and wear it around the house, until you're comfortable enough to wear it out in public. Same goes for lip products. A nude colour on the lips can look gorgeous, as well as a statement red, pink or even purple lip. I'd recommend not pairing the statement colours together, so keep the eyes soft if you're going for a bold lip and vice versa... or if you're confident and comfortable enough to rock both, then I say go for it !

Below I've listed some cosmetic companies, who either specialise in darker make-up or carry darker shades through out their ranges*:

► Covergirl - Queen Collection
► Revlon
► Iman Cosmetics - Designed for women of colour
► Maybelline "Fit Me" Range
►MAC Cosmetics
► Bobbi Brown
► NARS
► Bare Minerals

* The frustrating thing when it comes to drugstore - Priceline, chemists, Target, etc - make-up and their colour ranges, is they won't always stock the entire colour range, as it costs them more money and they may not have people of all colours shopping at their store, so to get around this I'd recommend purchasing online, often it works out cheaper - so if it doesn't match you're not wasting a tonne of money - plus, you are then able to find the shade you are after, instead of going from store to store and not finding what you're after.

I've also put the links to some gorgeous women below - who I watch on YouTube - that have various shades of darker complexions. Definitely go check them out, they're incredible ! :)

I hope you all enjoyed this post, I know it won't be for everyone, but you might know a friend/colleague/sister in law, etc who is having the same issues and problems when it comes to finding the right make-up. I'd also like to give a MASSIVE thank-you to Jade for letting me use her gorgeous face for the picture.

I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week and weekend and I will see you all next week for a Haul/Review on a recent cheeky online purchase I made
